Li Bai The Tang Poet

From young, we were exposed to the writings of Li Bai, the poems he wrote and his association with the Tang emperor and his concubine, the legendary Lady Yang. He liked to drink so much that legend had it that he fell into the lake and drowned himself while chasing his own shadow under the moon light, A man truly after the desire of his heart. A remarkable person who left behind a legacy.

If you are a fan of Li Bai and like his poems, I have two figurines here that depict the two different characters of Li Bai, one the sober scholar and the other the drunkard poet. These two figurines were made in the 德化 county in China in the early 70s, These crafts are known for their white glaze and silk like finishes. The early objects from the Ming Dynasty are very sought after because of their scarcity and workmanships. They cost a fortunate and are hotly contested items in major auctions.

These Dehua 德化 ware are elegantly designed and exquisitely crafted. You can see very minute details crafted in the figurines. It is really a pleasure to admire such skillful workmanship.
